HBL will be continuing the Training & Development Project in 2017. We have had great interest from members of the community and have decided to now provide opportunities not only to those who want to learn a skill or get trained but also to those who already may have a skill or professional training and require equipment to offer these skills and expertise to the community.
This is a great way to improve the skills and to give back to the community so they can benefit from what you have to offer.
In Year 2, HBL funded Donna Stacey to do CELTA – Certifcate in Teaching English to Speaker of Other Languages course. To give back to the community, Donna delivered an English Conversation Club at High Lane Centre for 7 weeks during November – December 2017.
As a result of the training received, Donna has secured a job as an ESOL teacher!
“I am so grateful to HBL for funding my CELTA course.
I had wanted to gain this qualification for a long, long time, but it was way out of my budget. I applied for the HBL Fund and was over the moon when I received the email to say my application had been successful.
The course took place for a full day once a week over 20 weeks and was incredibly challenging! I was thrown into the deep end of having to plan lessons and stand up in front of a class of 16 learners to deliver what I had prepared, whilst being scrupulously observed by the tutors and fellow colleagues! Then there was the methodology! It really made my head hurt.
I rose to the challenge and passed with flying colours!
I am now delivering lessons in my local community centre free of charge to residents which they say they are enjoying so far! Applying for this fund
from the HBL is definitely a win/win situation – because many people in the community reap the benefits as a result!”
